When you order an HVAC fire damper, you order it based on the nominal duct size (the interior dimensions of the duct or sleeve opening). We intentionally reduce the physical dimensions of the damper frame by 1/4 inch in both width and height (e.g., a 12" x 12" ordered damper arrives measuring exactly 11-3/4" x 11-3/4").

• Installation Clearance: The 1/4" deduction ensures that the damper frame slips smoothly inside the sleeve or ductwork without forcing, binding, or distorting the frame.
• Thermal Expansion: Fire dampers must operate flawlessly during an emergency. The slight clearance allows room for the metal components to expand under intense heat without jamming the curtain blades.
• Round Transitions: All round fire dampers will include a transition to make the necessary round connection (e.g. an 8" round damper will have a 10" frame measuring exactly 9-3/4" x 9-3/4")
